Pacific Partnership will travel to Kiribati for the first time in 2009 for 14 days, conducting a variety of medical, dental, veterinary and engineering civic action projects at four locations on Tarawa and Betio.

Tungaru Central Hospital

Bikenibeu S. Tarawa
Tungaru Central Hospital is Kiribati’s central and main referral hospital. Pacific Partnership will conduct medical/dental civic action program at this school for a surrounding population of approximately 6,000 people.

Betio Sports Complex

Betio
Modern sports complex near the largest population center of S. Tarawa with 26,000 people. Pacific Partnership will conduct medical/dental civic action program here.

Bonriki Bridge

South / North Tarawa, Republic of Kiribati
The bridge crossing between South and North Tarawa is the primary means of transit for the 5,000 residents of North Tarawa to conduct business, acquire health care, and purchase/sell food stuffs and necessities. Pacific Partnership will conduct an engineering civic action program to remove the existing, failed bridge and replace it with a “Mabey Johnson” pre-engineered bridge.

Tobontemaneaba Primary School

Tobonte Village, South Tarawa, Republic of Kiribati
The Tobontemaneaba School is the largest school in Southeast Tarawa serving approximately 700 students. Pacific Partnership will conduct an engineering civic action program to replace the roof on one classroom building and restrooms, replace exterior sheeting on five classroom building, renovate an existing restroom, install gutters and water catchment tanks on three classroom buildings and prime and paint the interior and exterior of five classroom buildings.
