Pacific Partnership will travel for the first time to Samoa in 2009 for 12 days, conducting a variety of medical, dental, veterinary and engineering civic action projects at five locations on the islands of Apolima, Savai’i and Upolu.
Sataua Clinic in Savai’i Savai’i Samoa Pacific Partnership will conduct a medical/dental civic action program.
National University of Samoa Apia, Samoa (Upolu) The Apia National Hospital is the primary medical facility for Upolu’s approximately 186,000 residents. Pacific Partnership will conduct a medical/dental civic action program and an engineering civic action program. The ENCAP will repair its drinking water purification system, renovate its “Fale” (an outbuilding used as a family waiting area), apply a non-skid coating to 5,868 square feet of outdoor walkways, and repair the roof and install overhead roll-up doors and chain link fencing to secure pharmacy/laboratory waiting area.
Apolima Village Apolima, Samoa (Apolima Island) Samoa’s fourth largest island lies in the strait between the main island of Upolu and Savai’i. For their water source, residents rely solely on water catchment and a nearby stream. Pacific Partnership will conduct a medical/dental civic action program and an engineering civic action program to install 60 feet of additional gutters and downspouts to increase the catchment potential of the existing community water tank.
Sasina Primary School Sasina Village, Savai’i, Samoa The Sasina Public Elementary School provides education for children, first through eighth grades. The school requires numerous repairs to their assembly building which is also used as a community meeting hall when school is not in session. Pacific Partnership will conduct an engineering civic action program to install a new roof; install a water catchment system; and replace and paint exterior siding, security window screens and electrical lighting.
Sataua Clinic Sataua Village, Savai’i, Samoa The Sataua Clinic serves a population of 5000 to 6000 people and relies solely on water catchment tanks for potable water. During the dry season, fresh water is limited to the available storage capacity. Pacific Partnership will conduct an engineering civic action program to install a new pump & pressure tank to supply the facility, install additional water tanks to increase storage capacity and repair existing gutters and downspouts to increase water capturing capacity. |
