Tonga

Pacific Partnership travels to Tonga for the first time in 2009 for 13 days, conducting a variety of medical, dental, veterinary and engineering civic action projects at five locations in Tonga’s Ha’apai Group of islands.

Government Primary School Tongoleleka
Hihifo, Lifuka Ha’apai Group Tonga

Pacific Partnership will conduct a medical/dental civic action program at this school for a surrounding population of approximately 3,500 people.

Lotofoa Medical Clinic
Foa Island, Ha’apai, Kingdom of Tonga

The Lotofoa Health Clinic provides basic medical care, immunizations, pre-natal and child care services to the 2,000 residents of the Island of Foa. Pacific Partnership will conduct an engineering civic action program that will replace the clinic’s roof, install ceramic floor tiles in the clinic and adjoining nurses’ quarters, renovate restrooms, replace doors and windows in the clinic and nurses’ quarters, install gutters and downspouts on both buildings and install water catchment tanks.

Pangai Hihifo, Primary School
Lifuka Island, Ha’apai, Kingdom of Tonga

The Pangai Hihifo Primary School serves nearly 200 students and has suffered structural damage from a recent earthquake. Pacific Partnership will conduct an engineering civic action program to repair structural concrete columns damaged in the earthquake and replace roof sheeting, fascia and guttering. Wooden wall surfaces, doors and windows damaged by termites will be replaced and all wall surfaces will be prepared, primed and painted. Six folding-style interior partition walls also will be installed, allowing the classroom building to be partitioned into smaller rooms.

Faleloa Primary School
Foa Island, Ha’apai, Kingdom of Tonga

The Faleloa Primary School serves approximately 100 students. Pacific Partnership will conduct an engineering civic action program to repair its restroom facilities and five-classroom school building. The ENCAP will replace the toilets, sinks and plumbing in the restrooms; replace the roof, fascia and gutters on the classroom building; install two water catchment tanks; and replace exterior classroom doors, windows and fluorescent light fixtures.

G.P.S Koulo Primary School
Lifuka Island, Ha’apai, Kingdom of Tonga

The Government Public School Koulo Primary School is located next to the Ha’apai Airport and serves approximately 70 students in three separate classroom structures. It has a critical water shortage stemming from leaky water catchment tanks. Pacific Partnership will conduct an engineering civic action program to demolish the existing water catchment tanks, andinstall two replacement water catchment tanks, gutters and downspouts.
