WASHINGTON - Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. John Richardson held a regularly-scheduled, periodic video teleconference (VTC) with Vice Adm. Shen Jinlong, People's Liberation Army (Navy) commander, July 9.

The two leaders discussed the importance of maintaining a routine dialogue centered on reducing strategic, operational and tactical risk between the two navies with the goal to minimize the possibility of any misunderstanding or miscalculation.

Richardson emphasized the United States Navy will remain consistent, in our messaging and our operations on the seas and in the air, in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

This was the fourth time Richardson and Shen have engaged over VTC. Richardson has also met with Shen twice, most recently during a visit to China in January 2019.
