USS Barry to visit Guadalcanal for 75th anniversary of battle

The guided-missile destroyer will arrive at the port of Honiara in the Solomon Islands, Aug. 4, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Guadalcanal.

HONIARA, Guadalcanal - USS Barry (DDG 52) will arrive at the port of Honiara in the Solomon Islands, Aug. 4, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Guadalcanal.

While in Honiara, the crew is looking forward to participating in various ceremonies, memorial services, a parade, community volunteer events, sporting events, and indulging in the local culture with traditional food and dance.

Barry, commanded by Cmdr. Dave Huljack, is forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan, and is in on patrol in U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in support and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
