160923-N-XM324-142 PHILIPPINE SEA (Aug. 23, 2016) The guided-missile destroyer USS McCampbell (DDG 85) breaks away from a formation with ships from Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 5 and Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) 7 following a photo exercise to signify the completion of Valiant Shield 2016. Valiant Shield 2016 is a biennial, U.S.-only, field training exercise (FTX) with a focus on integration of joint training among U.S. forces. McCampbell is participating in Valiant Shield in an effort to increase naval integration and joint capabilities in the event of conflict, contingency, or disaster relief.
