Butler was raised in Sarasota, Fla. He always has been athletic, playing football, baseball, basketball, and track and field in high school. He joined the Navy in 2009 so he could provide for his son the same lifestyle – or better – that his father provided for him. Butler deployed with Combat Logistics Regiment-2 as well as Combat Logistics Battalion-8. It was on his last deployment that he sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was medevaced out of theatre. It was a challenging road to recovery, but he celebrates the recent ruling returning him to full duty. “My goals are to make an impact on younger men, and to show them how to become a man,” says Butler.
