Root was commissioned February 2011. She joined the Navy because she had a passion for intelligence and languages. She earned her master’s degree in International Relations from the American University of Paris; is fluent in French, German, and Turkish; and hopes to continue to expand her portfolio. She very recently was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy, but isn’t letting it get in her way. She grew up in an athletic family, and has cycled; played volleyball, basketball, and tennis; and practiced yoga.
