Greeneville visitors' names released U.S. Pacific Fleet Public Affairs
PEARL HARBOR (Feb. 17, 2001) -- Despite significant interest by the news media in the disclosure of the names of the 16 civilians who were on board USS Greeneville (SSN 772) at the time of that submarine's collision with the motor vessel Ehime Maru on February 9, 2001, the names of these individuals were not released because the Navy was conducting a preliminary inquiry into the collision.
Since this non-public inquiry is now complete and a decision has been made to proceed with an open court of inquiry, the names are released.
