USS Greeneville (SSN 772) incident

Media visit to submarine

U.S. Pacific Fleet Public Affairs

PEARL HARBOR (Feb. 23, 2001) -- Media interested in learning first-hand about Los Angeles-class submarines are invited to tour a few spaces on board an attack submarine Sunday morning, Feb. 25. Spaces for viewing will include the control room, the sonar room, the crew's mess and the torpedo room to help media reporting on the upcoming Court of Inquiry better understand the submarine's configuration.

All discussions with tour guides will be on background only. Video will be limited to b-roll. Due to the anticipated interest, the tours will be brief and video cameras will be limited to one per media organization. The scheduled tour times will be followed to ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to see the submarine.

Interested media must call Pacific Fleet public affairs at 471-3769 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, to reserve space on one of the tours. Media need to meet in the parking lot outside Pearl Harbor's main entrance, Nimitz Gate, at their appointed time where they will be provided transportation to the submarine. Media will not be allowed to drive to the site.
