JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii - During this year’s Exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC), Air Commodore Louise desJardins of the Royal Australian Air Force’s (RAAF) Surveillance and Response Group and the first female air battle manager within the RAAF to reach the O7 rank, served in a key leadership role as the commander of the Combined Force Air Component. She and her team managed approximately 280 personnel at the Combined Air Operations Center (CAOC) – the nerve center of the exercise’s air campaign component that authorized air power participation for the world’s largest maritime drill held June 27 to Aug. 1 in and around the Hawaiian Islands.
Naval officer earns award for leadership in foreign ship liaison office
JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii - In June, Cmdr. Charles R. Lux, 43, earned the Meritorious Service Medal for coordination of all aspects of foreign ship visits to the Hawaiian Islands, Wake Island, and American Samoa from May 2022 to June 2024 as the Commander, Navy Region Hawaii (CNRH) foreign ship liaison officer (FSLO). The medal is the highest non-combat related medal or award a military member can receive.

Ships and aircraft participating in Exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2024 conducted long-planned, live-fire sinking exercises (SINKEXs) and sank the decommissioned USS Dubuque (LPD 8), July 11, 2024, and the decommissioned USS Tarawa (LHA 1), July 19, 2024. Both were sunk in waters 15,000 feet deep, more than 50 nautical miles off the northern coast of the island of Kauai.
