Rear Adm. Nicholas M. Homan is a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and a 1992 graduate of the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He holds a Master of Science in Astronautical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He enlisted in the Navy in 1983 as an Aviation Electronics Technician and was commissioned as a cryptologic warfare officer in 1992. Homan’s operational tours include deputy, deputy chief of staff for intelligence, Resolute Support, Deputy Director for Intelligence, U.S. Forces in Afghanistan; information warfare commander, commander, Carrier Strike Group 11 onboard USS Nimitz (CVN 68); cryptologic resource coordinator, commander, Carrier Strike Group 10 onboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75); Afghanistan National Security Force team leader/deputy director of Afghanistan Intelligence Transition Directorate in Afghanistan; Joint Special Operations Task Force J2, deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq; Ships Signals Exploitation Space division officer onboard USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6); detachment division officer onboard USS Comte de Grasse (DD 974); and communications evaluator flying on Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron 2 aircraft from Rota, Spain. Homan’s staff and interagency assignments include director of Intelligence, J-2, U.S. Special Operations Command, chief of staff to the Office of Naval Intelligence; action officer, Joint Staff J5 Afghanistan/Pakistan Hand; division chief, J2 Joint Special Operations Command; Information Warfare Officer junior officer detailer, Bureau of Naval Personnel; and chief of customer support at Aerospace Data Facility, Colorado. Homan’s command tours include commanding officer, Navy Information Operations Command Colorado and commanding officer, Nimitz Operational Intelligence Center, Office of Naval Intelligence. Homan’s decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal (two awards), Legion of Merit (three awards), Bronze Star (two awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Air Medal Strike/Flight (two awards), and Navy and Marine Corps Combat Action Ribbon. Additionally, he was the inaugural Captain Joseph Rochefort Information Warfare Officer Distinguished Leadership Award recipient.
