OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. - In recognition of outstanding support to U.S. Strategic Command’s (USSTRATCOM) strategic deterrence mission, U.S. Navy Adm. Charles Richard, commander of USSTRATCOM, announced the winners of the 2020 Omaha Trophies Feb. 10.

“Last year presented unique challenges. The men and women of USSTRATCOM demonstrated, flexibility, readiness, and success in executing strategic deterrence,” said Richard. “These Omaha Trophy award winners stood out as first among their peers in operational superiority across the spectrum of strategic deterrence. Their continued excellence anytime, anywhere supported our successful global mission. ”

The 2020 Omaha Trophy recipient organizations are:

  • Intercontinental Ballistic Missile: 90th Operations Support Squadron, F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming
  • Ballistic Missile Submarine: USS Henry M. Jackson, Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor, Washington
  • Strategic Bomber: 96th Bomb Squadron, Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana
  • Global Operations: Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron FOUR, Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma
The Omaha Trophy was originally created by the Strategic Air Command Consultation Committee (SCC) in 1971. At the time, a single trophy was presented annually as a token of appreciation to the command’s best wing. The SCC – an advisory group comprised of business leaders in the Omaha area – became the Strategic Command Consultation Committee after the activation of USSTRATCOM in 1992.

“The Strategic Command Consultation Committee is grateful for the opportunity to help recognize the excellence demonstrated by USSTRATCOM’s finest strategic units,” said Tim Burke, chairman of the SCC. “On behalf of the committee, and the greater Omaha community, congratulations and thank you to you and your families for all that you do to protect our great nation. We salute you.”

This year, the tradition continues through four awards to recognize USSTRATCOM’s premier intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) squadron, ballistic missile submarine, strategic bomber squadron, and global operations squadron.

“Our people continue to remain on watch 24/7 to safeguard our Nation,” Richard said. “I congratulate all squadrons nominated and their exceptional meritorious service. While overcoming the challenges in a pandemic, each of you continued to demonstrate unrivaled commitment to strategic deterrence.”
