Naval Air Forces Sailor tests positive for COVID-19

The San Diego-based Sailor is currently isolated at their home and restricted in movement in accordance with CDC guidelines.

PEARL HARBOR - On March 18, a Sailor assigned to Commander, Naval Air Forces in San Diego tested positive for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The individual is currently isolated at home and restricted in movement in accordance with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.

Personnel that the individual immediately identified having close contact with have been notified, placed in a restriction of movement status at their residences, and are being monitored.

Additionally, military health professionals are conducting a thorough contact investigation to determine whether any other personnel may have been in close contact and possibly exposed. The Sailor’s work area has been comprehensive cleaned and inspected by medical personnel. Commander, Naval Air Forces has also implemented a telework policy where possible to further mitigate the risk of COVID-19.

The Navy is committed to taking every measure possible to protect our Sailors and their families, preventing the spread of the virus to U.S. forces, allies or partners, and ensuring our warfighting readiness in order to accomplish assigned missions. We remain in close coordination with state and federal authorities, and public health authorities to ensure the well-being of our personnel and local population.
