SASEBO, Japan - The Virginia-class attack submarine USS Texas (SSN 775), arrived at Fleet Activities Sasebo, Jan. 17 for a visit as part of its deployment to the Indo-Pacific region.

The visit strengthens positive alliance between the U.S. and Japan through the crew's interaction with Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. It also demonstrates the U.S. Navy's commitment to regional stability and maritime security in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.

Measuring 377 feet long and weighing more than 7,900 tons, Texas and its crew of approximately 150 is capable of executing a multitude of missions including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface ship warfare, and shallow water operations.

Commissioned Sept. 9, 2006, USS Texas is the second of the Navy’s Virginia-class fast-attack submarines and the fourth warship to be named after the U.S. state of Texas.

Texas is homeported at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii.
