Navy announces Installation Excellence Award winners

Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) has announced this year's Navy Installation Excellence Award winners.

WASHINGTON - Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) announced the Navy's 2018 Installation Excellence Award Winners, Dec. 18

The Navy's installation excellence award program recognizes the top three large and top three small installations, based on the installation's performance in accordance with the command's strategic goals and the Office of the Secretary of Defense criteria for the DoD-wide Commander-in-Chief Installation Excellence Awards.

This year's winners are as follows:

Large Installation

1st Place: Naval Air Station (NAS) Whidbey Island (Commanded by Capt. Geoffrey C. Moore)
2nd Place: Naval Base Coronado (Commanded by Capt. Scott T. Mulvehill)
3rd Place: Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (Commanded by Capt. Jeffrey J. Kim)

Small Installation

1st Place: NAS Whiting Field (Commanded by Capt. Todd A. Bahlau)
2nd Place: NSA Mechanicsburg (Commanded by Capt. Kyle A. Bryan)
3rd Place: PMRF Barking Sands (Commanded by Capt. Vincent Johnson)

"This year's competition was intense, and it is clear our winners represent the very best of the best within the shore enterprise," said Vice Adm. Mary Jackson, CNIC. "I want to personally thank each installation's superb teams for their stellar work. Their efforts to deliver readiness through the shore are indicative of the teamwork and drive to deliver the very best to our Sailors and their families while ensuring we remain good stewards of the taxpayers' money."

NAS Whidbey Island will represent the Navy in competition with other military services for the Department of Defense Commander-in-Chief's Annual Award for Installation Excellence, which recognizes outstanding efforts in the operations and maintenance of U.S. military installations.

"Congratulations to Capt. Moore and his team for their outstanding leadership and focus which has resulted in NAS Whidbey Island's selection as this year's Navy Installation Excellence Award winner," said Jackson.

Installation excellence enables better mission performance and enhances the quality of life for service members and their families. Each nominated installation sets the example of excellence in their contribution to warfighting readiness.

Navy Installations Command's 53,000 military and civilian employees provide infrastructure management, base operations and fleet and family support to 71 installations around the world.
