MCPON meets with Sailors in Sasebo during Japan visit

13 September 2017

From MC2 Jordan Crouch, Task Force 76 Public Affairs

Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Steven Giordano met with personnel assigned to Task Force 76 and Fleet Activities Sasebo, Sept. 12.

SASEBO, Japan - Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Steven Giordano met with Sailors and Marines assigned to Commander, Task Force 76 and Commander, Fleet Activities Sasebo (CFAS) as part of the regional tour to hear feedback from the Fleet, Sept. 12.

“I’m here to listen, learn, and take back ways we can improve processes,” said Giordano. “We’ve had this theme over the last year-plus about being a learning organization, and we have to remain committed to that.”

At an all-hands call aboard the amphibious transport dock USS Green Bay (LPD 20), Giordano stressed the importance of leadership in developing junior personnel. His message to leaders: learn something new each day and communicate with junior personnel on a routine basis.

Giordano discussed topics such as manning, automated administrative systems and career advice with those on Green Bay.

He also reenlisted multiple Sailors, awarded Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist pins and congratulated chief petty officer selects.

“What I want to take away from this is our Sailors continue to know that they contribute to everything that we do,” said Giordano. “And in order to do that, you have to engage in the conversations. And then you have to have confidence that leadership is listening to you and that we’re going to work together better end results.”
