36th annual San Francisco Fleet Week kicks off Monday

More than 2,000 Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will take part in San Francisco Fleet Week, Oct. 3-10.

SAN FRANCISCO - The 36th annual San Francisco Fleet Week runs Oct. 3 through 10 and will welcome more than 2,000 Sailors, Marines, members of the Coast Guard and the Royal Canadian Navy to the Bay Area for the eight-day tribute to maritime forces.

Amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22) and guided-missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53), along with U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mellon (WHEC 717) and Royal Canadian Navy frigate HMCS Calgary (FFH 335), will participate in Fleet Week.

In addition I Marine Expeditionary Force will host a service dog exhibit and static displays, and the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon and Band have multiple performances scheduled.

San Francisco Fleet Week 2016 is an opportunity for the American public to meet their sea services. The Sailors, Marines and Coast Guard members will be in San Francisco to celebrate the rich history of America's naval forces and the Bay Area. This engagement will highlight naval personnel, equipment, technology and capabilities.

Throughout the week, Sailors will engage with the local community in a series of service projects and enjoy premier events, including the Blue Angels air show and a parade of ships. The Navy Blue Angels are scheduled to perform at the air show Oct. 7 through 9.

The Pacific Fleet Band will perform at various locations throughout the week.

Additionally, San Francisco citizens will have opportunities to interact with service members and tour the ships.
