PORTLAND, Ore. - Guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) and guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance (DDG 111) will participate in Portland Rose Festival in Portland, Oregon, June 5-9, to celebrate the 105th Rose Festival.
The Navy ships are the first to return to the Portland Rose Festival since 2012. Budget uncertainty caused by sequestration prevented Navy ships from participating in 2013.
Throughout the week, Sailors will have an opportunity to engage with the local community and enjoy premier events of the festival including live music, food, entertainment and various sports competitions among ships.
"It's really important to our organization that we honor the men and women that serve our country and our veterans as well," said Portland Rose Festival CEO Jeff Curts. "We are honored to host a fleet week, one of six around the country. It's very special to this organization and our community embraces fleet week."
Additionally, Portland citizens will have opportunities to tour the ships and meet Sailors. Ship tours are scheduled for June 6-8 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend tours and interact with Sailors.
When touring the ships, visitors are encouraged to bring as few items as possible when arriving for their tour and are recommended to wear flat-heeled, closed-toe shoes. Prohibited items on board include:
Navy warships have been coming to the City of Roses since USS Charleston's visit in 1907.

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the hull number of USS Spruance. The correct hull number is DDG 111.
