Stennis Strike Group to Return to San Diego

The John C. Stennis Strike Group will return to San Diego April 29, marking the successful end of deployment for Carrier Air Wing 9 and USS Mobile Bay (CG 53).

SAN DIEGO - The John C. Stennis Strike Group (JCSSG) will return to San Diego April 29, marking the successful end of deployment for Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9 and the guided-missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) to the U.S. Navy's 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility (AOR).

The aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis' (CVN 74) stop in San Diego will be a brief one before returning to her homeport at Naval Base Kitsap in Bremerton, Wash.

JCSSG consists of USS John C. Stennis, CVW-9, Destroyer Squadron 21, and Mobile Bay.

The CVW-9 staff is based at Naval Air Station Lemoore, Calif., and leads nine squadrons: Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 41; VFA-14; VFA-97; VFA-192; Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 133; Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 112; Fleet Logistics Support Squadron (VRC) 30; Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 8; and Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 71.
