SINGAPORE - Sailors assigned to Commander Logistics Western Pacific and Navy Region Singapore conducted an all hands standdown to "Stamp Out" Sexual Assault, Dec. 11.

The training followed a Nov. 28 message to all Pacific Fleet Sailors, in which Adm. Cecil D. Haney, commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, called for a "frank and open" discussion to focus on leadership expectations while garnering "deckplate input" on how to prevent sexual assaults.

Rear Adm. Tom Carney, Commander, Logistics Group Western Pacific, stressed the importance of the standdown to prevent sexual assaults and to ensure all hands were on the same page.

"As Admiral Haney noted, the vast majority of our Sailors are outstanding citizens who work hard to make their communities better," said Carney. "Preventing sexual assaults is an all-hands effort, and I know you are up to the challenge."

Carney emphasized how irresponsible behavior by a few has serious consequences, affecting the Navy's ability to accomplish the mission in the Asia-Pacific. Carney also stressed that sexual assault is a crime, and one that it is absolutely incompatible with Navy Core Values.

Following remarks, NRS and CLWP Sailors split up into peer groups to discuss the challenges the Navy faces with the excessive use of alcohol and sexual assault.

The sexual assault stamp out is part of a broader Pacific Fleet initiative announced earlier this month by Haney that encourages shipmate intervention to prevent destructive behavior.

"Every Sailor must make an effort to be responsible and stamp out sexual assault. The common theme with all these incidents is alcohol. I expect you to take care of each other - that means stepping in if you see something wrong," said Carney.

COMLOG WESTPAC and NRS are the U.S. 7th Fleet's providers of combat-ready logistics and shore support services. These commands maintain and operate government-owned and contracted vessels to keep combatant ships and units throughout the region armed, fueled and fed.

Additionally, COMLOG WESTPAC is 7th Fleet's Theater Security Cooperation agent for South and Southeast Asia, promoting military-to-military relations and coordinating exercises such as Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training.
