JAKARTA, Indonesia - The guided-missile cruiser USS Cowpens (CG 63) arrived in Jakarta Oct. 7 for a port visit.

After a short transit and excellent mooring evolution, Sailors aboard the "Mighty Moo" plan to enjoy some time off in a city that many have never seen.

The crew and officers of Cowpens will participate in community service activities to foster good will and friendship with the people and military of Indonesia, including a soccer and volleyball game. Sailors will also enjoy activities to include a two day diving trip that many are excited about, as well as sight seeing trips around the area.

"Jakarta is a unique port visit for our Sailors," said Capt. Tom Disy, commanding officer. "Not many ships are lucky enough to be able to explore such a diverse and exciting culture and we are very happy to have this opportunity."

Cowpens is forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan and is underway in the 7th Fleet area of operations in company with the USS George Washington Strike Group.

Operating in the Western Pacific and the Indian Ocean, the U.S. 7th Fleet is the largest of the forward deployed U.S. Fleets, covering 48 million square miles, with approximately 60-70 ships, 200-300 aircraft, and 40,000 Sailors and Marines assigned at any time.
