From Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet Public Affairs

Sterett is set to return to San Diego July 5 after a deployment to the 7th and 5th Fleet areas of operation.

SAN DIEGO - The guided-missile destroyer USS Sterett (DDG 104) is scheduled to return to San Diego July 5 after a deployment to the 7th and 5th Fleet areas of operation as part of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group.

Sterett, commanded by Cmdr. Rich McDaniel, took part in five multinational exercises and maritime security operations (MSO) missions in the western Pacific, Indian Ocean and Middle Eastern regions.

Sterett is the fourth U.S. ship named after Lt. Andrew Sterett, who commanded the Enterprise as she battled the Barbary pirates in 1802. Like her namesake, Sterett was also involved in counter-piracy operations on this deployment.

Sterett promotes peace and security, preserves freedom of the sea and provides deterrence and humanitarian assistance/disaster response capabilities.
