PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii - The Boxer Amphibious Ready Group (BOXARG) and embarked 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) arrived at Pearl Harbor Sept. 20 for a port visit during their 2011 Western Pacific deployment.
BOXARG is comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Boxer (LHD 4), amphibious dock landing ship USS Comstock (LSD 45) and amphibious transport dock ship USS Green Bay (LPD 20), and is led by Commander, Amphibious Squadron One, Capt. Curtis Shaub.
“The BOXARG/13th MEU team was extremely successful in accomplishing every task across the myriad of blue-green mission sets during this deployment,” said Shaub. “We are looking forward to some well deserved time off in this tropical paradise then continuing our journey home to see our loved ones.”
BOXARG deployed Feb. 22 from San Diego, and has been conducting theater security cooperation events and bilateral training exercises while in the Western Pacific and U.S. Central Command areas of responsibility.
“I am so proud of the 2,300 Marines and Sailors that made up this edition of 13th MEU,” said Col. David Coffman, 13th MEU commanding officer. “They were a great team. They made a difference in these turbulent times during their seven months as a forwar- deployed, sea-based MAGTF [Marine Air-Ground Task Force], and now return with honor to their family and friends back here in America. Mission complete and job well done.”
Pearl Harbor is the final port visit for BOXARG/13th MEU as the ships are scheduled to return to their homeport of San Diego after completing a seven-month deployment.
