MUARA, Brunei - The guided-missile destroyer USS Reuben James’ (FFG 57) commanding officer, Cmdr. David E. Miller, met with two senior members of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) March 4.

During the meetings, Miller, Charge de Affaires Alex Barrasso, Commander of the RBAF Maj. Gen. Aminuddin Ihsan, and Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) Col. Abdul Halim, discussed the common goals the U.S. and Brunei have in regards to regional maritime security.

“Meeting with Major General Aminuddin and Colonel Halim was an honor and a privilege,” Miller said. “My crew and I are gracious for the hospitality and friendship which have been shown to us and we are looking forward to continuing to work with the RBAF to achieve our common goal of maritime security throughout the region.”

They also talked about the military partnership that exists between the two countries. Exercises between the two countries such as Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT), allow the U.S. Armed Forces and RBAF to participate in joint training operations in the Southeast Asia region of the 7th Fleet area of responsibility.

Reuben James departed its homeport of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on Feb. 1 for a Western Pacific deployment, focusing on building positive international relations with partners in Southeast Asia.
