KURE, Japan
– The Emory S. Land-class submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40) arrived in Kure, Nov. 23.
This is the second port visit in the country of Japan for Frank Cable. The ship recently departed Yokohama, Japan — the ship’s first visit to that city.
Established on July 1, 1889, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Kure Naval Base consists of ports and facilities in multiple districts throughout the city, including the Shōwa District, where Fleet Submarine Force, 1st Submarine Squadron, and Submarine Training Command are based.
While in Kure, Frank Cable will host JMSDF members and demonstrate Frank Cable’s submarine tender support capabilities.
“Our Sailors and civil service mariners look forward to demonstrating submarine tender expeditionary capabilities,” said Capt. Albert Alarcon, Frank Cable's commanding officer. “Our events in Kure will complement our recent theater security cooperation engagements in Yokohama and further advance interoperability with Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force submarines.”
Frank Cable departed Apra Harbor, Guam and commenced their deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations, Oct. 18. Kure makes the third port visit for Frank Cable.
Frank Cable, forward-deployed to the island of Guam, repairs, rearms, and reprovisions submarines and surface vessels in the Indo-Pacific region. Frank Cable is on patrol conducting expeditionary maintenance and logistics in support of national security in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.
Under Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet, 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with 35 maritime nations in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
