Adm. Samuel Paparo, commander U.S. Pacific Fleet, traveled to the Kingdom of Thailand, May 1-2, 2023 to affirm strength of the U.S.-Thailand Alliance.
Paparo met with senior Thailand officials to discuss the importance of maritime security and interoperability between naval forces in the Indo-Pacific for regional peace, security, and stability.

The leaders discussed the friendship and close cooperation of the two navies and the endurance of the U.S.-Thai Alliance, now marking 190 years.
The two navies regularly participate in bilateral and multilateral exercises, including Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) and Cobra Gold. Thailand recently hosted USS Charleston (LCS 18), USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and USS Nimitz (CVN 68) for port visits.
Paparo extended condolence for the loss of lives aboard HTMS Sukhothai. He offered assistance in the recovery efforts.
During the visit, Suwin hosted Paparo, on behalf of Adm. Cherngchai Chomcherngpat, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, for the Inspection of the Guard of Honor at the Royal Thai Navy Headquarters.
The visit to Thailand underscored the United States’ commitment to strengthening alliances and partnerships for an enduring resilient, free and open Indo-Pacific.
