The two navies have a longstanding defense relationship and a strong navy-to-navy partnership that includes regular staff talks, port visits, exercises and exchanges throughout the year, and logistics and maintenance support to rotationally deployed U.S. Navy Independence-variant littoral combat ships.

While at Sembawang Naval Base, Koehler and Fleet Master Chief Don Davis, PACFLT’s senior enlisted leader, engaged with leadership and personnel assigned to Commander, Logistics Group Western Pacific/Task Force 73. Koehler also participated in a roundtable discussion consisting of Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and United States military leaders to discuss commitments and collaborations with our regional allies.

At IMDEX Asia 25, Koehler participated in a panel discussion on “Mutual Cooperation and Collaboration in Pivotal Times” with Adm. Datuk Zulhelmy, Malaysia’s chief of navy; Rear Adm. Garin Golding, New Zealand’s chief of navy; and Vice Adm. Kanchana Banagoda, commander of Sri Lanka Navy. He addressed the importance of strengthening deterrence and interoperability with like-minded nations through maritime domain awareness exercises, highlighting multilateral maritime cooperative activities such as Oceania Maritime Security Initiative (OMSI), Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC), Super Garuda Shield, Talisman Sabre, Balikatan, submarine rescue exercise Pacific Reach, and Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) exercise series. The panel emphasized the importance of trust that is gained through cooperation and collaboration with allies and partners to maintain peace and security and ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific.

At the Changi Naval Base, Koehler toured Republic of Singapore Navy’s RSS Dauntless (21), an Independence-class littoral mission vessel, where he received a demonstration on the unmanned capabilities of the ship. He also met with leadership and Sailors assigned to Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Dewey (DDG 105), which was in port to participate in IMDEX Asia 25.
The visit to Singapore underscored Koehler’s commitment to strengthening partnerships and maintaining a secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
