MIYAZAKI, Japan (Nov. 22, 2021) The Avenger-class mine countermeasure ship USS Chief (MCM 14), assigned to Mine Countermeasures Squadron Seven (MCMRON 7), sails in formation with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Mine Warfare Force during 3JA Mine Warfare Exercise (MIWEX), 2021. 3JA MIWEX is a US and Japanese maritime exercise in which forces work together to clear a simulated minefield using unit-level mine warfare tactics including mine hunting, detection, and neutralization. MCMRON 7, is forward-deployed to the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with partners and serve as a ready-response platforms for contingency operations.
