230918-N-SS900-1001 SAN DIEGO (Sept. 18, 2023) Sailors assigned to the Chilean Navy submarine CS Carrera (SS 22) exchange a salute during a Chilean Independence Day ceremony held on board Naval Base Point Loma, Sept. 18. Carrera is deployed to San Diego as part of the Diesel-Electric Submarine Initiative (DESI) program. DESI was established in 2001 by U.S. Fleet Forces Command and partners with South American submarine-operating navies as they participate in fleet readiness exercises.
