231017-N-XP214-1002 SAN DIEGO (Oct. 17, 2023) A “Seascope” newspaper from Dec. 19, 1969 shows a sample of content managed by Tom LaPuzza, public affairs officer of an organization preceding Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific and editor of the newspaper at the time: a Chief of Naval Operations holiday message, the onboarding of a lieutenant, a Christmas safety message, a crossword puzzle, thank you messages, and publication credits. LaPuzza’s role in the sweeping saga of NIWC Pacific’s 80-year-long history — which tells how the lab became the Navy’s information warfare experts — is as a former public affairs officer, former newspaper editor, and storyteller, a role he continues to perform as an emeritus.
