USAF A-10 Thunderbolt II escorts USS Nebraska in Pacific Ocean

A U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft escorts Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine USS Nebraska (SSBN 739) in the Pacific Ocean, July 28, 2026. Nebraska is assigned to Commander, Submarine Group (COMSUBGRU) 9, which exercises tactical and administrative control authority for assigned submarine commands and units in the Pacific Northwest providing oversight for shipboard training, personnel, supply and material readiness of submarines and their crews. COMSUBGRU 9 is also responsible for nuclear submarines undergoing conversion or overhaul at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton.
