Naval officer earns award for leadership in foreign ship liaison office
JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii - In June, Cmdr. Charles R. Lux, 43, earned the Meritorious Service Medal for coordination of all aspects of foreign ship visits to the Hawaiian Islands, Wake Island, and American Samoa from May 2022 to June 2024 as the Commander, Navy Region Hawaii (CNRH) foreign ship liaison officer (FSLO). The medal is the highest non-combat related medal or award a military member can receive.
U.S. Coast Guard, Peruvian, Mexican Partners Collaborate on First Urban Search and Rescue Operations in Exercise RIMPAC 2024
PEARL HARBOR - July 13 marked the completion of the first urban search and rescue exercises in RIMPAC history, illustrating the growing value of the world’s largest maritime exercise and the increased range and usefulness of the U.S. Coast Guard.
US and Partner Nations Conduct Multiple SINKEXs as Part of RIMPAC 2024
PACIFIC OCEAN - Ships and aircraft participating in Exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2024 conducted long-planned, live-fire sinking exercises (SINKEXs) and sank the decommissioned USS Dubuque (LPD 8), July 11, 2024, and the decommissioned USS Tarawa (LHA 1), July 19, 2024. Both were sunk in waters 15,000 feet deep, more than 50 nautical miles off the northern coast of the island of Kauai.
