U.S. Marine Rescues Unconscious Civilian During RIMPAC 2026 Liberty

During a weekend liberty trip to Oahu’s Waimea Bay during Exercise Rim of the Pacific 2026, U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Nathan Espinosa, an airframe mechanic with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 164, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, leaped into action to save a life. After witnessing a civilian attempt a flip off the local landmark "Jump Rock," land face-first, and float unconscious and bleeding in the water, Espinosa immediately dove in. Alongside another beachgoer, he swam the victim to shore through heavy surf, placed him in the recovery position, and managed the scene until local lifeguards and medical personnel arrived. Espinosa’s leadership credited the rescue to the discipline, quick judgment, and problem-solving mindset cultivated daily by his Marine aviation training, proving that a Marine's readiness to run toward danger never takes a day off.

Naval officer earns award for leadership in foreign ship liaison office

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii - In June, Cmdr. Charles R. Lux, 43, earned the Meritorious Service Medal for coordination of all aspects of foreign ship visits to the Hawaiian Islands, Wake Island, and American Samoa from May 2022 to June 2024 as the Commander, Navy Region Hawaii (CNRH) foreign ship liaison officer (FSLO). The medal is the highest non-combat related medal or award a military member can receive.
