Captain Gary G. Montalvo

Gary Montalvo, a native of Santurce, Puerto Rico graduated from USNA in 1997. He earned an M.B.A from George Washington University, and a M.A in National Security Studies and International Security from Regent University. He is a 2021 MIT Seminar XXI Fellow.

A career Submariner, his operational assignments include service on fast attack and ballistic missile submarines both in the Atlantic and Pacific. He deployed to the Western Pacific, the European theater, and completed strategic deterrent patrols. He served on USS ANNAPOLIS (SSN-760), USS PENNSYLVANIA (SSBN-735) (BLUE), USS TEXAS (SSN-775). He commanded the USS NORTH CAROLINA (SSN-777) and served as Commodore SUBDEVRON FIVE. 

Staff Assignments include Flag LT to COMUSNAVSO, Flag Aide to DCNO OPNAV N3/N5, Technical Representative to the Director of Naval Reactors, Deputy Executive Assistant to COMPACFLT, Prospective Commanding Officer Instructor, and Program Analyst in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Most recently he served as Division Director, Submarine & Nuclear Officer Distribution (PERS 42), Nuclear Community Manager (N133), Executive Assistant to the INDOPACOM Commander.

He serves as the Director of Maritime Headquarters and Theater Sustainment at COMPACFLT.
