CAPT Darren Stennett, a native of Pensacola, FL, graduated from the University of West Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Relations in 1991. Realizing a call to ministry, he completed a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. There, he was commissioned an Ensign in the Chaplain Candidate Program. Upon completion of Pastoral Residency at VA North Texas Medical Center, he augmented to active duty and was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines. As battalion chaplain, he deployed in support of Operation Enduring/Iraqi Freedom (OIF 1 & 2); participating in the invasion of Iraq and fall of Baghdad.
CAPT Stennett was then assigned as Command/Fleet Hospital Chaplain, Naval Hospital Pensacola. As Fleet Hospital Chaplain, he managed chaplain support for DSCA efforts post- Hurricane Katrina. Next, he reported as Command Chaplain aboard USS MESA VERDE (LPD 19.) A proud plank owner, he deployed in support of Central American counter-drug operations. Following that tour, he assumed duty as Deputy Command Chaplain, Naval Air Station Pensacola. During this tour, he served as Wing Chaplain for TRAWING 6, Naval Flight Demonstration Team (Blue Angels), and U S Air Force 479th Flying Training Group.
CAPT Stennett then attended the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, Virginia, where he earned a Masters in Military Studies and completed JPME Phase 1. Following graduation, he reported to 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit Command Element. While at 13th MEU, he deployed on the BOXER ARG/MEU West-Pac 13-2 deployment. CAPT Stennett detached from 13th MEU to assume duties as U S Coast Guard District Eight Command Chaplain. There he oversaw religious ministry for the Coast Guard’s largest and busiest district encompassing twenty-six states. Upon completion, he reported as Command Chaplain, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) with additional duties as Strike Group 10 Command Chaplain. Next, he served as Regions Chaplain, Naval Region Southeast. There he oversaw religious ministry support for 18 installations chapels and ministry to the fleet. CAPT Stennett most recently completed his tour at U.S. THIRD Fleet; where was responsible for Operational Religious Ministry force generation and employment.
CAPT Stennett currently serves as Fleet Chaplain, Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
CAPT Stennett is married to the former C. Leann Hauptrief of Wimberley, TX and has 4 children; Clay, Maddi, Cate, and Becca. His personal decorations include the Legion of Marit, Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Air Force Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
