24 March 2014

From MCSN Gabrielle Joyner

The submarine tender arrived in Sattahip, March 24, as part of the ship's ongoing underway period in the Western Pacific.

SATTAHIP, Thailand - The submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40) arrived in Sattahip, March 24, as part of a regularly scheduled underway period in the Western Pacific.

"Our main goal for this visit is to show our continued commitment to our partners and friends in Thailand with whom we have been allies for 181 years," said Capt. Mark Benjamin, commanding officer of Frank Cable.

During the port visit, Frank Cable Sailors plan to participate in community service events such as a multi-gender soccer challenge with a local team, visit the Child Protection Center in Hua Yai and an orphanage in Pattaya to spend time with the children.

"This port visit offers Frank Cable Sailors an opportunity to learn the rich culture and deep heritage of the great nation of Thailand and to meet the friendly people therein. We have several community events and educational tours planned to give my Sailors an understanding of why our two countries have remained friends and regional partners for nearly two centuries," said Benjamin. "Of course, this stop also provides well-deserved time off of the ship for my Sailors to rest, relax, shop, and to enjoy the food and customs of Thailand."

For many aboard, this port visit marks their first trip to Thailand. Damage Controlman Fireman Aimee Cambre has big plans for her first time in the country and is eager to see what's in store for her there. "I am excited to go to Thailand and to experience a foreign port I have never seen," said Cambre. "I'm really looking forward to helping people during the community service events, as well as joining in on the soccer game."

Frank Cable, forward deployed to the island of Guam, conducts maintenance and support of submarines and surface vessels deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility and is currently on a scheduled underway period.
