Once aboard, Harris toured the ship’s repair, health services, operations divisions and pilot house, allowing him the opportunity to meet and talk with Sailors and civilian mariners.

POLARIS POINT, Guam – Adm. Harry B. Harris Jr., commander of U.S. Pacific Fleet, visited the crew of the submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40), Dec. 9, as part of his visit to the island of Guam.

Harris toured the ships spaces with Commander, Joint Region Marianas, Rear Adm. Tilghman D. Payne, and Commander, U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), Capt. Mike Ward.

Once aboard, Harris toured the ship’s repair, health services, operations divisions and pilot house, allowing him the opportunity to meet and talk with Sailors and civilian mariners.

“It was good to meet the admiral who is in charge of the ship. He related stories of other Military Sealift Command (MSC) ships that he has worked with,” said Dave Every, Frank Cable’s chief engineer. “It’s always good to meet an admiral that has knowledge and takes notice of the civilian mariners that work for MSC.”

Frank Cable was just one leg of a tour for Harris who will meet with other naval commands while on Guam.

“I think the tour provided some good insight into Frank Cable’s mission and capabilities and the professionalism of our Sailors. I think he (Harris) appreciated it,” said Capt. Pete Hildreth, Frank Cable’s commanding officer.

Frank Cable, forward-deployed to the island of Guam, conducts maintenance and support of submarines and surface vessels deployed in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility.
