Hawaii Intelligence Community to Commemorate Battle of Midway

The Hawaii military intelligence community is inviting the public to a series of professional and social events surrounding the inaugural Midway Intelligence Ball, June 1-3, 2012.

CAMP SMITH, Hawaii - The military intelligence community in Hawaii invites the public to a series of professional and social events surrounding the inaugural Midway Intelligence Ball, June 1-3, 2012.

The program is sponsored by Pacific Command's Intelligence Directorate (J2), which will mark a new tradition for the intelligence community in Hawaii commemorating one of our nation's most historically significant military victories.

Scheduled to be present at Friday and Saturday events is 95-year old Rear Adm. Mac Showers (Ret), U.S. Navy, who as the last surviving member of Fleet Admiral Nimitz's Pacific Fleet Intelligence Staff. He will recount his first-hand observations of the historic intelligence events that led to a heroically fought victory.

Activities begin Friday, June 1, at the U.S. Pacific Fleet headquarters at Pearl Harbor followed by guided tours of the U.S. Pacific Command's Joint Intelligence Operations Center (JIOC) on the same Makalapa compound as the Pacific Fleet headquarters.

On Friday evening, a cocktail reception at the Pacific Aviation Museum will feature keynote speaker Vice Adm. "Jake" Jacoby, U.S. Navy (Ret.), a former Pacific Fleet and Pacific Command Director of Intelligence and the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency.

The main event is Saturday evening, June 2, the Midway Intelligence Ball. This mess dress / formal affair at the Hale Koa Hotel will feature keynote speaker Vice Adm. Mike McConnell (Ret.), a former Director of National Intelligence, Director of the National Security Agency, Joint Chiefs of Staff Director of Intelligence and Pacific Fleet Director of Intelligence.

On June 3, the Air Force's Pacific A2 team is coordinating a Sunday golf event. It will start at 12:00 p.m. at the Hickam Air Force Base's Mamala Bay course. It will be a best ball format with teams of four.

Cultural entertainment will be provided by keiki from Halau Hula Olana and the Pacific Air Force Band on Friday. Former Miss Hawaii, Kanoe Miller, will perform hula and the Pacific Fleet Band will be on hand to provide music for the Intelligence Ball.
