Master Chief Musician Guy Gregg

Assistant Director

Master Chief Gregg, a native of Phoenix, Arizona enlisted in the United States Navy in May of 1993 and attended Recruit Training in Great Lakes, Illinois. Upon graduation of Recruit Training, he attended Musician ‘A’ School in Virginia Beach, Virginia and later reported to the Pacific Fleet Band in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where he served as Trumpet Instrumentalist.

Master Chief Gregg transferred to Yokosuka, Japan in July of 1997 and served as Trumpet Instrumentalist and Leading Petty Officer for the Popular Music Group “Orient Express.” In September of 2002, he returned to the Pacific Fleet Band in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and served as Unit Leader of numerous small ensembles and as Command Leading Petty Officer.

From September 2007 to April of 2008, Master Chief Gregg attended the Unit Leader Course at the School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Upon graduation, he reported to the U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band in Naples, Italy where he was soon promoted to Chief Petty Officer. He served as Leading Chief Petty Officer, Operations Coordinator, and Chief Petty Officer in charge of numerous ensembles touring throughout Europe, Africa and Asia. In addition, he earned the designation as Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist. In June 2011, he was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer and later that year returned to Musician ‘C’ school for instruction at the Senior Musician Course.

In May of 2012, Master Chief Gregg reported to the U.S. Fleet Forces Band in Norfolk, VA for duty as Leading Chief Petty Officer and Operations Coordinator. In August 2013, Master Chief Gregg reported to Yokosuka, Japan for duty as Assistant Director and Senior Enlisted Leader for the U.S. Seventh Fleet Band. There he earned his designation as Enlisted Information Warfare Specialist.

Master Chief Gregg transferred back to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in July 2017 as the Assistant Director and Senior Enlisted Leader for the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band, where he promoted to his current rank and was instrumental in the planning and execution of multiple Pacific Partnership deployments incorporating the use military musicians from the United States Marine Corps and partner nation military musicians from Japan and Australia. In September 2019, Master Chief Gregg transferred to the Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia and served as the Command Master Chief and Senior Instructor working alongside the United States Marine Corps and United States Army School of Music.

Master Chief Gregg is currently serving as Assistant Director and Senior Enlisted Leader for the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band. He is a graduate of the Navy’s Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 168 (Purple group), and the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course Class #151. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Excelsior College. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards) and numerous unit and campaign decorations.
