Lt. j.g. David A. Harbuziuk

Assistant Fleet Bandmaster

Lt. j.g. David A. Harbuziuk is a native of Naperville, Illinois. He attended Baylor University where he studied music education and trumpet performance before transferring to DePaul University, where he earned a Bachelor of Music in composition. He holds a Master of Music in music theory from Baylor University and a Master of Music in brass performance from the University of Akron.

After auditioning for the Navy Music Program as a trumpeter, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 2008. Upon graduation from Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended Musician “A” school at the Armed Forces School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

His first assignment was to Navy Band Northeast in Newport, Rhode Island, where he was advanced to musician petty officer 2nd class. After serving at Navy Band Southwest in San Diego, Harbuziuk reported to the Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he graduated from the unit leader course. He then returned to Navy Band Northeast where he served as the operations petty officer in charge, leading petty officer, Ceremonial Band conductor, drum major, audition coordinator, and Pops Ensemble leading petty officer while also performing in the Brass Quintet and all large ensembles.

In December 2018, he was commissioned as a bandmaster ensign through the Limited Duty Officer Program. After attending the LDO/CWO Academy at Officer Training Command, Newport, Rhode Island, Harbuziuk reported to U.S. Pacific Fleet Band onboard Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, and served as operations officer and assistant fleet bandmaster.

Harbuziuk’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and the Navy Good Conduct Medal (three awards).
