Master Chief Musician Guy Gregg, a native of Phoenix, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May 1993 and attended recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois. Upon graduation, he attended musician “A” school in Norfolk and later reported to the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band in Pearl Harbor, where he served as trumpet instrumentalist.
Gregg transferred to Yokosuka, Japan in July 1997 and served as trumpet instrumentalist and leading petty officer for the popular music group “Orient Express.” In Sept. 2002, he returned to the Pacific Fleet Band in Pearl Harbor and served as unit leader of numerous small ensembles and as command leading petty officer.
From Sept. 2007 to April 2008, Gregg attended the unit leader course at the School of Music in Norfolk. Upon graduation, he reported to the U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band in Naples, Italy, where he was soon promoted to chief petty officer. He served as leading chief petty officer, operations coordinator and chief petty officer in charge of numerous ensembles touring throughout Europe, Africa and Asia. In addition, he earned the designation as enlisted surface warfare specialist. In June 2011, he was promoted to senior chief petty officer and later that year returned to musician “C” school for instruction at the senior musician course.
In May 2012, Gregg reported to the U.S. Fleet Forces Band in Norfolk for duty as leading chief petty officer and operations coordinator. He graduated from the senior enlisted academy, class 168 (purple group) later that year. In Aug. 2013, Gregg reported to Yokosuka, Japan for duty as assistant director and senior enlisted leader for the U.S. 7th Fleet Band. There, he earned his designation as enlisted information warfare specialist and graduated from the command master chief/chief of the boat course class 151.
Gregg is currently stationed in Pearl Harbor as the assistant director and senior enlisted leader for the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band. He holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Excelsior College. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards) and numerous unit and campaign decorations.
